Reading with the Holy Spirit
You do not need a degree to read the Bible. You need the passage, something to mark it with, and the Holy Spirit. Pay attention to what gets your attention.
- 1
Read
Open Scripture together. Read it aloud, then give everyone two minutes to mark it in silence. Notice words or phrases that stand out, and share them with your group.
Highlight whatever gets your attention, even if you cannot say why · underline what God is doing or saying · circle a word that repeats, or one you do not understand. Then say it out loud. “it just stood out” is a complete answer.
- 2
Reflect
A short teaching on the passage: where God is in this scene, and what it shows us about his presence, love, and purpose. Talk honestly with your group about how it connects to your life right now.
- 3
Key truth
One central truth from the passage. Read it out loud. The point is not simply to name what the text says, but to let it reshape how we see God, ourselves, and the life in front of us.
- 4
Respond
Use the discussion questions to process the reading and the reflection together. Be honest about where it connects with your life, what challenges you, and where God might be inviting you to take a next step.
- 5
Go further
Back to what you marked, with the inductive questions. Work through this together; one person reads the questions out.
- 6
Breakthrough
We don't just want to talk about God. We want to encounter him. Breakthrough is when God's Kingdom breaks into our reality: his healing where there is pain, his freedom where there is bondage, his presence where there is loneliness, his encouragement where there is despair. Take time as a group to pray for one another's real needs, ask the Holy Spirit for words or Scriptures to share, and leave space for silence and Spirit-led prayer.

Next steps
Every session ends with practical options. Choose one way to live the truth this week, and say it out loud so someone else hears it. Next time you gather, share what you practiced and how God used it, not for pressure but for encouragement.
Group discussion guidelines
- Come regularly. Your presence matters, not just for you, but for the entire group. Be present, not perfect. Come as you are.
- Participate. Your story reflects the character of God. Share what he is doing in your life. Listen actively and seek to understand before responding.
- Keep it safe. Give room for others to share. Avoid quick answers or judgments. Spiritual growth takes time, and everyone is on their own journey.
- Confidentiality. What's shared in the group stays in the group. Honor one another's stories with care and discretion.
- Know & be known. Take time to truly know one another. Commit to praying for your group members throughout the week.
Note for group leaders: if something serious surfaces, do not carry it alone. Help the person connect with appropriate pastoral, medical, counseling, or emergency support. The note on care below has the details.
