Read what they remember about Egypt, and what they say about the bread God sends.
Then notice what the complaint costs, and who hears it.

What stood out?
Go around the room. Each person reads one thing they marked. If you know why it stood out, say so. If you don’t, “it just stood out” is a complete answer. Nobody explains, nobody corrects.

Manna
We know the fiction of yesterday and the fantasy of tomorrow, and today looks like neither.
The promised land: they've never seen it, but they love what they imagine. The fantasy of tomorrow is land, milk, honey, gold, freedom. They don't imagine giants and wars and defeats.
Egypt: it's not that they wanted slavery. It's just that they knew it. Yes, the past was certainly horrible, but at least it's certain. The fiction of yesterday is meat, leeks and onions, water, a buffet. Slavery, beatings, the mass murder of baby boys in the Nile: that was the yesterday they cried out from.
We do the same thing. If I could go back to yesterday, and I can't wait until tomorrow. We wish we could get back the lost and broken things, and we can't wait to be somewhere we've never been. Let's get back to the early church; I can't wait for the Kingdom to come. And today looks like neither.
So, first: grieve together. People aren't resisting change; they are grieving loss. Ask yourself, am I resisting change or grieving loss? And second: believe together. Remember and recite where God is taking us next. What has God promised us to keep us moving? Power behind us. Problems ahead. Presence with us. This is the story of manna: needing God in every moment.
Manna is about needing God in every moment.

Let’s pray together
Grieve together: name the losses behind the resistance in the room, and mourn them honestly before God.
Believe together: remember and recite out loud where God is taking you next.
- What fiction of yesterday keeps calling you back?
- What fantasy of tomorrow keeps you from receiving today's portion?
Close on the promise: power behind us, problems ahead, presence with us.
Let’s pray
Breakthrough is when God's Kingdom breaks into your reality: His presence in the today that looks like neither your yesterday nor your tomorrow. Pray from that Kingdom, not toward it.
Be still for a moment. Open your hands and simply pray: “Come, Holy Spirit.”
Write down the fiction of yesterday that keeps calling you back, and the fantasy of tomorrow that keeps you from receiving today's portion. Grieve what needs grieving, then remember and write out what God has promised, and receive today's manna with thanks.
You can pray more than once. Stay present, and trust that God is at work. Take your time; there is no hurry.
Choose one. Say it out loud so someone else hears it.
Next time you gather, share what you practiced and how God used it, not for pressure but for encouragement.
The reminder downloads as a calendar event. Open it and it lands on your calendar for tomorrow morning.
